L'Assomption meanders
The river loops through the town in wide bends. Its curves are the defining line of the map and break up the regular streets.

The map
Joliette Map Poster & Print
Joliette lies in the Lanaudière region of Quebec, northeast of Montreal. The L'Assomption River winds through the town, and from above its loops are the most striking feature of the map. The centre sits close to the river, and bridges carry the main streets across it to neighbourhoods on the far bank.
The town takes its name from Barthélemy Joliette, the nineteenth-century founder who developed the settlement around mills on the river. Today Joliette is known for the Festival de Lanaudière, a major summer classical music festival, and for the Musée d'art de Joliette.
A Joliette map poster shows the river as a meandering line through a mostly regular street network, with parks and green strips along its banks. The contrast between the grid and the curving water gives the composition its interest.

River crossings
Several bridges carry streets across the L'Assomption, connecting the centre with neighbourhoods on the opposite bank.
Riverside green
Parks and open strips follow the banks, forming soft pale bands between the water and the built-up blocks.
