Bay shoreline
The northern edge of Kagoshima Bay forms the southern boundary of the plain. Its broad, smooth coastline gives the map a calm horizontal base.

The map
Kokubu-matsuki Map Poster & Print
Kokubu lies in Kirishima City, Kagoshima Prefecture, on a flat plain at the northern end of Kagoshima Bay. From above, the urban area forms a grid of streets across the lowland. A river runs through toward the bay, and the railway and main roads cross the plain, while wooded hills rise to the north. The Kirishima volcanic range lies farther inland beyond them.
The Kokubu area was once the site of the provincial capital of ancient Ōsumi Province, which is where its name comes from. Today it is an important residential and industrial centre in the prefecture, and Kagoshima Airport sits on the higher ground not far away. Across the bay, the volcano Sakurajima is part of the everyday view.
A Kokubu-matsuki map poster shows a town defined by its setting. The bay edge fills the south of the frame, the river threads through the streets, and the hills make a quiet, blank frame to the north. The regular layout of the plain stands in contrast to the curving roads that climb into the higher ground.

River through the plain
A river crosses the lowland on its way to the bay, dividing the grid of streets. It adds a soft, meandering line to the composition.
Hill backdrop
Wooded hills close off the plain to the north, with the Kirishima range beyond. They appear as open, lightly patterned areas at the top of the frame.
