The map
Kolomyia Map Poster & Print
Kolomyia lies on the Prut River in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, western Ukraine, where the plains meet the foothills of the Carpathians. From above, the town shows a compact historic centre with a central square and irregular streets, surrounded by residential districts and cut through by railway lines that follow the river valley.
The town is a cultural centre of the Hutsul and Pokuttia regions, known for folk crafts, embroidery and woodwork. It is best known for its Pysanka Museum, housed in a building shaped like a giant decorated Easter egg, which has become a symbol of Kolomyia. The town has long been a market and rail hub for the surrounding countryside.
A Kolomyia map poster shows the interplay of river, rail and street. The Prut curves along one side of the town, the railway draws long lines through the valley, and the older centre forms a dense knot of streets. It is a balanced, characterful composition for those with roots in the Carpathian foothills.

The old town gathers around a central square, where shorter, irregular streets create a denser pattern than the more open neighbourhoods around it.
Pysanka Museum
The museum's egg-shaped building is Kolomyia's best-known landmark, a celebration of Ukrainian decorated eggs and a focal point near the town centre.
