Kapchagay Reservoir
The reservoir spreads across the map as a broad, pale expanse. Its irregular shoreline contrasts sharply with the straight lines of the town and gives the poster its scale.

The map
Konayev Map Poster & Print
Konayev, known until 2022 as Kapchagay, grew up alongside the dam that created the Kapchagay Reservoir on the Ili River. The town sits on the reservoir's southern shore, and on a map the water is the first thing you notice: a large, open shape against which the street grid appears neat and compact.
The streets follow the logic of a Soviet-era planned settlement, with regular blocks, broad avenues and residential districts arranged in clear sections. In 2022 the town was renamed after Dinmukhamed Kunaev, the long-serving Soviet Kazakh leader, and it became the administrative centre of the reorganised Almaty Region. The reservoir has long drawn weekend visitors from Almaty to its beaches.
A Konayev map poster pairs geometry with open water. The grid, the dam and the long shoreline make a composition with strong contrast and a lot of breathing room. It suits people from the town, those who spent summers on the reservoir, and anyone interested in how new towns were drawn onto the steppe.

Planned street grid
Konayev's blocks and avenues are laid out with evident intent. Residential districts sit in tidy sections, a pattern that reads especially well in the Blueprint style.
The Ili dam
The dam that formed the reservoir crosses the Ili River near the town. On the map it appears as a short, decisive line separating open water from the river's continuing course.

Why Konayev
A map that means something
Konayev is a place of beginnings: a new name, a new regional role and a town built around water. A map of it works as a reminder of summers by the reservoir or of a hometown that keeps changing.
Choose your own title, perhaps the old name Kapchagay, and add a subtitle and coordinates line. Five styles are available, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, as $9 HD files or as a printed poster.
