Lerma River
The Lerma winds past the town on its way toward Lake Chapala. Its looping course contrasts with the straight streets and gives the map its most distinctive line.

The map
La Barca Map Poster & Print
La Barca sits in the low, flat country of eastern Jalisco, close to the border with Michoacán. The Lerma River passes along the town before flowing on toward Lake Chapala, and the name itself points to a crossing place on the river. From above, the town appears as a fairly regular grid of blocks, with the river's curves and the rectangular fields around it shaping the edges.
Like many towns in western Mexico, La Barca is organised around a central plaza and church, with the street grid spreading outward in even squares. The surrounding plain is heavily farmed, and the long straight lines of irrigation channels and field boundaries continue the geometry of the streets well beyond the last houses.
A La Barca map poster shows how much the river defines the place. The Lerma runs as a pale ribbon through otherwise measured country, bending where the grid stays straight. It makes for a composition that is both calm and specific, with the town's layout clearly readable and the water giving it a natural counterweight on one side.

Central grid
Streets form an even pattern of square blocks around the plaza, a classic Mexican town plan that reads crisply in black and white.
Farmland geometry
Beyond the town, rectangular fields and channels extend across the plain, echoing the street grid and framing La Barca within a wide agricultural landscape.
