Canal network
Irrigation channels fed by the Yellow River run in long, straight lines across the plain, giving the map a strong geometric framework around the town.

The map
Lijun Map Poster & Print
Lijun lies on the plain south of Yinchuan, the capital of Ningxia, in a stretch of country made fertile by water drawn from the Yellow River. From above the land is flat and highly ordered: long straight canals, rectangular fields, tree-lined roads and villages set at regular intervals. Further west, the Helan Mountains form a natural wall between the plain and the desert beyond.
Irrigation on this plain has a very long history, with canals dug and extended over many centuries, and the network still defines how the landscape looks. Towns such as Lijun sit within that framework, their streets aligned with the fields and water channels around them. On a black-and-white print the result is a crisp geometric pattern, broken only by the occasional diagonal road or rail line.
A Lijun map poster suits people with family ties to Ningxia, or anyone who has spent time on the Yinchuan plain and remembers its long, flat horizons. The town's modest size keeps the design uncluttered, so canals and roads can be read clearly. It is an image of a working agricultural landscape rather than a famous skyline, which is exactly its appeal.

Ordered fields
Rectangular plots and tree-lined lanes fill the space between canals, creating an even texture that sets off the denser streets at the centre.
Crossing roads
A few long roads cut through the field pattern, some at an angle, linking the town with Yinchuan and neighbouring settlements and adding direction to the composition.

Why Lijun
A map that means something
A map of Lijun is a personal choice, usually made by someone who grew up in the area or has relatives there. The orderly look of the Ningxia plain translates well into a minimal print, and it tells a story of water and farming that a photograph struggles to show.
Add a title, subtitle or family name, and edit the coordinates line to suit. There are five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. The $9 digital package includes six print sizes, or you can order a printed poster on matte paper.
