The map
Mälaren Map Poster & Print
Mälaren is Sweden's third largest lake, and it looks nothing like a single sheet of water. From above it is a web of long bays, narrow sounds and islands that runs for many kilometres west of Stockholm, so irregular that the line between lake and land is hard to follow.
At its eastern end the lake drains into the Baltic through the heart of Stockholm, and much of the capital is built on the islands and shores at that meeting point. Further west, towns such as Västerås, Strängnäs and Eskilstuna stand near its arms, with farmland and forest filling the spaces between the water.
The lake also has deep historical layers. The Viking Age site of Birka on Björkö is listed by UNESCO, as is Drottningholm Palace on Lovön. A Mälaren map poster turns this intricate geography into a dense, almost lace-like pattern of shoreline.

Island labyrinth
Countless islands and peninsulas fill the lake, breaking it into sounds and fjord-like bays that make every section of the map look different.
Birka and Drottningholm
Two UNESCO-listed sites sit on islands in the eastern part of the lake, one a Viking Age trading town, the other a royal palace.

Why Mälaren
A map that means something
Mälaren suits people who know the Stockholm region beyond the city centre: summer houses on the islands, sailing in the sounds, trips to Birka. The map shows how much of the region's life is shaped by this one irregular body of water.
Add your own title, perhaps the island where you spend summers, a subtitle with a date and your chosen coordinates. Select from five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, and receive print-ready PDFs and 300 DPI PNGs without watermarks.
