Ostrogozhsk Map Poster & Print
Ostrogozhsk is a town in Voronezh Oblast in southern Russia, founded in 1652 as a fortress on the Belgorod defensive line that guarded the southern frontier. It sits on the Tikhaya Sosna, a tributary of the Don, and on the map the river winds along the edge of the town through meadows and wooded floodplain.
The town was later rebuilt on a regular plan, and its centre still shows a clear grid of wide streets and square blocks. Ostrogozhsk is known as the birthplace of the painter Ivan Kramskoi, one of the leading figures of the Peredvizhniki movement, and a museum in the town is dedicated to his work.
An Ostrogozhsk map poster sets that orderly street grid against the loose curves of the Tikhaya Sosna and its floodplain. The result is a composition of two textures: straight lines and even blocks in the town, soft meandering water and open land on its edge.

Planned street grid
The historic centre follows a rational plan of straight streets and rectangular blocks, a legible pattern typical of towns rebuilt in the Russian provinces.
Frontier origins
Founded as a seventeenth-century fortress on the southern defence line, the town's position above the river still reflects its original defensive logic.
