Rio do Testo valley
The river winds through the heart of the municipality and the main road follows its course. As a result, the town's shape on the map is long and gently curving.

The map
Pomerode Map Poster & Print
Pomerode lies in the Itajaí Valley of Santa Catarina, close to Blumenau. From above, it is not a dense grid but a long, green settlement that follows the course of the Rio do Testo and its side valleys. Roads run beside the water with houses and small farms along them, and wooded hills rise on both sides, giving the town an elongated, branching shape.
Immigrants from Pomerania and other German regions settled the town in the nineteenth century, and it is often described as the most German town in Brazil. Half-timbered houses in the enxaimel style survive in the countryside, many families still speak German, and the town holds a well-known Easter festival, the Osterfest.
A Pomerode map poster reads like a diagram of settlement in a river valley. The centre is modest. The real character lies in the long rural roads, each following a stream or ridge, with homesteads spaced along them. In black and white, those branching lines and the hilly ground between them form a soft, detailed composition.

Branching rural roads
Side roads climb into smaller valleys, each lined with houses and farms. Together they form a pattern like the branches of a tree spreading from the centre.
Wooded hillsides
Forested slopes rise between the valleys and leave large areas of the map open and quiet. This lets the lines of roads and rivers stand out.
