The map

Puri lies on the coast of Odisha, where the land meets the Bay of Bengal along a long, almost perfectly straight beach. From the temple the Grand Road, known locally as Bada Danda, runs as an unusually wide avenue towards the Gundicha Temple. Every year the Rath Yatra pulls huge wooden chariots along it, watched by enormous crowds.
That avenue gives the town a clear central axis, and it looks striking in plain linework.
