The map
Raipur Map Poster & Print
Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh, sits on the flat plain of the upper Mahanadi basin, with the Kharun River running along its western side. The historic centre is a close network of market streets and lanes, broken up by a series of old ponds and lakes, known locally as talabs. On the map they appear as clean white shapes among the blocks.
The largest of these, Budha Talab, now called Vivekananda Sarovar, has a statue of Swami Vivekananda on an island at its centre. Beyond the old town, the city spreads along highways and rail lines. To the south-east lies Nava Raipur, officially Atal Nagar, a planned capital laid out from scratch with broad avenues, large sectors and government complexes.
The contrast between the two is what makes a Raipur map poster interesting. On one side there is a dense, organic town that grew around its tanks; on the other, a new city drawn with long straight lines. Depending on the frame, the poster can focus on the old centre or take in both, along with the roads that connect them.

Kharun River
The river curves along the western edge of the city, forming a soft natural boundary that frames the built-up area on larger prints.
Nava Raipur grid
The planned capital to the south-east is laid out with wide avenues and large sectors, a regular pattern that looks almost diagrammatic in black and white.
