It is made up of several distinct localities, including Empelde, Ronnenberg itself, Benthe and Weetzen, and on a map they appear as separate clusters of streets linked by country roads and railway lines rather than as a single continuous town.
Empelde, the largest part, borders the Hanover city districts and has the tighter, more suburban street pattern. Further south and west, the older villages keep their compact cores surrounded by fields.
