La Pigna
The medieval quarter spirals up a hill above the centre. Its dense, curving alleys form a compact knot that stands apart from the more regular streets near the sea.

The map
Sanremo Map Poster & Print
Sanremo has room to grow in only one direction, along the coast. The town stretches as a narrow band beside the Ligurian Sea, with a harbour and seafront promenades at its edge. Behind it the ground climbs quickly into hills cut by terraces and scattered with greenhouses, a legacy of the flower growing that gave this stretch the name Riviera dei Fiori.
Above the modern centre sits La Pigna, the medieval quarter. Its lanes coil tightly up a hillside in a shape that locals compare to a pine cone. On the map it shows as a knot of short, bending lines, quite unlike the straighter streets below. Roads switch back up the slopes, while the main coastal routes run parallel to the shore.
Sanremo is known for its casino, for the Italian song festival held in the town every winter, and as the finish of the Milan–Sanremo cycling classic. A Sanremo map poster shows the tension between sea and slope: a crowded coastal ribbon, a tightly wound old town, and the loose lines of hillside roads fading upward.

Coastal strip
The town runs in a long, thin band along the shore. The seafront and harbour form a clean edge where the street pattern stops and the open sea begins.
Hillside switchbacks
Roads zigzag up the terraced slopes behind the town. Their loops fan out across the upper part of the map like handwriting.

Why Sanremo
A map that means something
Sanremo is for people who remember the light on the Riviera, a festival week or the finish of a spring race. As a picture, the pressed coastline and winding hills make a clear, elegant composition.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps the date of a trip or an anniversary. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand gives the coast a warm, sunlit feel.
