Terraced old town
Streets run in parallel bands across the hillside, joined by stairways and steep lanes. The historic centre appears as a stack of fine horizontal lines rising from the sea.

The map
Sciacca Map Poster & Print
Sciacca lies on the southwest coast of Sicily in the province of Agrigento, facing the Strait of Sicily. The town rises from its harbour in a series of terraces. On the map the streets form horizontal bands that step up the slope, linked by stairways and short climbing lanes. Behind it rises Monte Kronio, a hill whose caves give off natural steam.
Sciacca has been known since antiquity for its thermal waters, and later for its ceramics, which still fill shop fronts in the old town. The historic centre keeps traces of its walls and gates, with churches and palazzi along the main streets. Below, the harbour is home to one of the island's working fishing fleets, and its piers draw sharp shapes against the sea.
A Sciacca map poster reads almost like a cross-section of the town, with sea at the bottom, harbour and terraces in the middle and the slopes of Monte Kronio above. The Carnival of Sciacca, with its large allegorical floats, is one of the best known in Sicily. On paper, though, it is the town's layered geography that stands out.

Fishing harbour
The port at the foot of town, enclosed by breakwaters and piers, forms a crisp geometric edge against the open water of the Strait of Sicily.
Monte Kronio
The hill behind Sciacca is known for its steam-filled caves, which are tied to the town's thermal tradition. It rises beyond the streets as open ground in the upper part of the map.

Why Sciacca
A map that means something
Sciacca is a place people return to, for the sea, the spas, the Carnival or family roots on the Sicilian coast. A map of its terraces and harbour captures the town's shape in a way a photograph rarely can, and it looks at home in a kitchen, hallway or study.
Choose Paper or Sand for a warm Mediterranean feel, or Classic black & white, Noir or Blueprint for something sharper, and personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates. HD files are $9. Printed posters are made on matte paper and shipped from partners in more than 30 countries.
