Nikkō Kaidō route
The line of the old highway runs through the centre, its route still visible as a long street that marks the town's origin as a post station.

The map
Sōka Map Poster & Print
Sōka lies just north of Tokyo in Saitama Prefecture, on the flat lowland of the Kantō Plain. Its map is dense and fine-grained, with small blocks, narrow streets and railway lines crossing the city. Rivers and drainage channels thread through the built-up area, typical of this low-lying land.
The city grew as Sōka-juku, a post town on the Nikkō Kaidō, the historic road north from Edo. The line of that old road still runs through the centre. Along the Ayase River, the Sōka Matsubara promenade follows a long row of pine trees, a place associated with the poet Bashō's journey to the north.
Sōka is also known for sōka senbei, the crisp rice crackers that have been made here for generations. A Sōka map poster captures the quiet structure of a suburb shaped by an old highway, a river and the steady grid of the plain.

Sōka Matsubara
The pine-lined promenade along the Ayase River forms a long, narrow strip of green, one of the most recognisable features on the city's map.
Fine-grained blocks
Tightly packed residential streets fill the flat plain in a dense, intricate pattern that reads especially well in detailed black line.
