Zhutang is a town in southwestern Yunnan, in the hill country near the border with Myanmar. The terrain determines everything here. On a map, the settlement is a small cluster of streets on the limited flat or gently sloping land, and the surrounding hills are steep and tightly folded.
The roads leading out of town do not run straight. They follow the contours of the land, winding along valleys and zigzagging up slopes to reach the villages above.
