Ābu Road is in the southwest of Rajasthan, at the foot of the Aravalli range. The main railway line through the town shapes almost everything around it. From above, the streets follow the tracks, with the station area in the middle, and the mountains rise sharply to the northwest toward the hill station of Mount Abu.
The town began largely as the railhead for Mount Abu, and for travellers it is still the usual gateway to the hill station and the marble Dilwara temples. It is also home to the headquarters campus of the Brahma Kumaris spiritual organisation.
