Al Fallūjah lies on the Euphrates in Anbar province, on the flat plain west of Baghdad. The main city spreads along the east bank, while the land within a bend of the river on the western side holds a smaller district reached by bridges. From above, the urban area is a dense grid of blocks and streets set against the green strip of the river and the open land beyond.
It has long been a stopping point on routes between Baghdad and the west, and it is often called the city of mosques for the many domes and minarets across its neighbourhoods. The bridges over the Euphrates, including an older steel bridge, are among its most recognisable structures, and the river remains the defining element of the city.
An Al Fallūjah map poster shows a city organised by its river and its roads. The Euphrates curves along one edge, main roads lead west toward Ramadi and east toward Baghdad, and the neighbourhoods form a regular pattern of blocks between them. It is a clear, measured composition that suits a minimal black-and-white treatment.
The river curves past the city in a broad arc, bordered by a green band of fields and palm groves that separates the town from open land.
Bridges link the main city with the western bank, drawn on the map as short straight lines across the calm curve of the Euphrates.
Most districts follow a regular street grid, giving the city a disciplined, even texture that contrasts with the soft natural line of the river.
