Ko e mape
Arar is the capital of the Northern Borders Region of Saudi Arabia, set on a high, open desert plateau not far from the border with Iraq. From above, it is a clear example of planned modern growth: a wide grid of avenues and blocks spreads across flat ground, the dry course of Wadi Arar winds along the urban area, and open desert extends in every direction.
The city grew from a station on the Trans-Arabian Pipeline, completed around 1950 to carry oil from the Gulf coast to the Mediterranean. The pipeline and its service road gave the settlement its first reason to exist, and Arar later developed into the administrative centre of the region, with a university, an airport and highways linking it to the rest of the kingdom.
An Arar map poster shows a city defined by order and space: long, straight avenues, repeating blocks and the natural line of the wadi breaking the geometry. The plain background of the surrounding desert gives the design unusual clarity, and it looks particularly good in the Sand and Noir styles.
Arar's central districts are arranged on a broad, regular grid of avenues and blocks, a crisp pattern that stays easy to read even at smaller poster sizes.
The dry watercourse that shares the city's name curves along the urban area, an irregular natural line cutting across the otherwise geometric plan.
The route of the old Trans-Arabian Pipeline and its service road crosses the desert near the city, the line along which Arar and several other northern towns first grew.
