Two harbours
The Waitematā and Manukau harbours nearly meet across the isthmus, so water enters the composition from both sides and the city appears as a narrow band between them.

Ko e mape
Auckland occupies a slim neck of land between two harbours, the Waitematā opening east to the Hauraki Gulf and the Manukau opening west to the Tasman Sea. At its narrowest the isthmus is little more than a kilometre wide, which gives the city an unusually watery shape on any map, with bays, creeks and inlets reaching deep into the suburbs.
The city is built on the Auckland volcanic field, around fifty small volcanoes. Cones such as Maungawhau, or Mount Eden, and Maungakiekie, or One Tree Hill, rise as green domes among the streets, while Rangitoto, the youngest, stands as a symmetrical island in the gulf. The Harbour Bridge links the central city with the North Shore.
Auckland is New Zealand's largest city and is often called the City of Sails, for the number of boats moored in its harbours. The central business district rises around the Sky Tower near the Waitematā waterfront. An Auckland map poster shows how closely land and sea interlock here, with coastline appearing on almost every edge of the frame.
The Waitematā and Manukau harbours nearly meet across the isthmus, so water enters the composition from both sides and the city appears as a narrow band between them.
Green, rounded cones such as Mount Eden and One Tree Hill interrupt the street grid, their encircling roads forming small loops scattered across the suburbs.
The bridge crosses the Waitematā just west of the city centre, linking it with the North Shore in a single strong line over open water.

Ko e ha Auckland
Auckland is home to people from all over New Zealand, the Pacific and beyond, and many arrived here to start something new. A map of its harbours and volcanoes is a lasting reminder of that beginning, or of a city you left for somewhere else.
Personalise the title and subtitle with a suburb, a name or a date, and edit the coordinates line. Choose from five styles, Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand; Blueprint makes the two harbours read especially clearly.
