Bachuan is the main urban area of Tongliang District in western Chongqing. On the map, it lies in the rolling hills that cover much of the Sichuan Basin. The streets do not follow a simple grid. They bend around hills and follow the valleys, while small streams and reservoirs fill the lower ground.
Newer districts have grown with wider roads and larger blocks, and expressways connect the town to central Chongqing. Around the urban area, terraced fields, low ridges and small villages cover the land in a fine, irregular pattern. Tongliang is widely known for its traditional dragon dance, which is part of China's intangible cultural heritage.
