Baojia is a town in the Chongqing municipality, in the hilly southeastern part of the region. The terrain here shapes settlement closely: roads follow valley floors and contour lines, and built-up areas fill the flatter ground wherever it exists. From above, the town appears as a concentrated cluster set among folds of land, with fields and woodland pressing close on all sides.
As with many small towns in this part of China, much of the street network grows along one or two main roads, with side streets branching off where the slope allows. Terraced fields and scattered villages occupy the surrounding hillsides, and small streams run through the valleys. Newer buildings along the roads extend the town in thin lines rather than broad blocks.
