Brejo Santo is in the south of Ceará, in the Cariri region near the borders with Pernambuco and Paraíba. From above it is a fairly regular grid of streets built on gently rolling ground, with the town spreading along the main roads that pass through it. The name refers to a brejo, a word for a wetter, more fertile patch of land in otherwise dry country, and that points to why a town grew here.
