Ko e mape
Mossoró lies in the semi-arid west of Rio Grande do Norte, in northeastern Brazil, not far inland from the Atlantic coast. The Apodi-Mossoró River winds through the city, and its meanders separate the older centre from the neighbourhoods that grew on the far bank. Outside the urban area the land opens into flat, dry country, marked by roads, farms and industrial sites.
The region is one of Brazil's main sources of sea salt, and the evaporation ponds along the river's lower course form large geometric patterns visible from above. Mossoró is also a centre of onshore oil production, and its history includes the day in 1927 when residents resisted an attack by the bandit leader Lampião, an episode still commemorated in the city.
A Mossoró map poster brings together the curves of the river, the grid of the centre and the long straight avenues that lead out into the sertão. Each June the city holds one of the larger São João festivals in the Northeast, and many who come back for it know these streets well.
The river loops through the city in wide bends, crossed by several bridges, and forms the main natural line running through the map.
The older centre is laid out in a regular grid around its churches and squares, a dense rectangle among the more scattered later districts.
Beyond the last neighbourhoods, flat semi-arid land stretches out, crossed by highways and service roads for the surrounding oil fields and farms.

Ko e ha Mossoró
Mossoró is home for many people who have moved to Natal, Fortaleza or São Paulo but still return every June. A map of the city is a daily reminder of the river, the heat and the streets of the centre.
Personalise the title and subtitle with a name or date, adjust the coordinates line, and choose between Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. The files come in six sizes, or you can order a printed poster.
