Maracanaú lies just south-west of Fortaleza, within the capital's metropolitan area in Ceará. It became a separate municipality in the 1980s and grew quickly around an industrial district planned to take factories out of the crowded capital. On the map the city is a mix of large rectangular industrial plots, housing estates laid out in regular rows, and older, more informal neighbourhoods between them.
The land is low and mostly flat, broken by small lakes and reservoirs that appear as irregular pale shapes among the streets. Fortaleza's south metro line runs through Maracanaú, and its route forms a strong linear axis through the city, tying the newer neighbourhoods to the centre of the capital and giving the plan a clear spine.
Maracanaú is primarily a place people live and work rather than visit, and that is part of its appeal as a map. A Maracanaú map poster shows a distinctly modern Brazilian urban pattern, where planning and organic growth meet, set against the green hills of Maranguape that rise to the west beyond the city limits.
Large, regular factory plots form blocks of clean geometry across part of the city, contrasting with the fine-grained residential streets around them.
The south line of Fortaleza's metro crosses Maracanaú in a long straight stroke, a unifying axis that connects the city's neighbourhoods and leads directly into the capital.
Small lakes scattered through the urban fabric break up the streets with soft, organic shapes, giving the poster moments of calm among the dense blocks.

Ko e ha Maracanaú
Maracanaú is home for many families in greater Fortaleza, and a map of it marks the place where they built their lives. Its mix of planned estates, factories and water makes a composition with more variety than expected.
The title, subtitle and coordinates can be personalised with a neighbourhood, a family name or a moving-in date, and there are five styles to choose from. Sand fits the Ceará sunshine; Noir gives the streets a bold, graphic look.
