Chennimalai lies in the Erode district of western Tamil Nadu, in a landscape of farmland broken by isolated rocky hills. The town takes its name and much of its identity from the hill that rises beside it, crowned by a temple dedicated to Lord Murugan and reached by a long flight of steps and a winding hill road.
The town is also widely known for its handloom and powerloom textiles, especially cotton bedsheets, towels and home furnishings. Weaving has shaped daily life here for generations, and the dense residential streets of the centre reflect a town of workshops and homes built close together.
A Chennimalai map poster shows these two sides of the place in one frame: the compact lanes of the weaving town and the hill with its looping ascent. In black and white, the contrast between the tight urban grid and the open slope gives the poster a clear focal point and a strong sense of place.
The hill beside the town, topped by the Murugan temple, stands out as an open shape crossed by the winding road and stepped path that lead to the summit.
The centre is a dense network of narrow residential lanes, the kind of close-knit pattern associated with a long tradition of home-based textile work.
Beyond the built area, roads radiate across a flat agricultural landscape, their straight lines contrasting with the curves of the hill road.
