Chilaw is a town on the west coast of Sri Lanka, in the North Western Province, north of Negombo. It lies on a narrow strip of land between the Indian Ocean and the Chilaw lagoon, and that position shapes the entire map. The coastline to the west is long and straight, while the lagoon to the east gives the town a softer, irregular edge.
Fishing has long been central to life here, and the shore is lined with boats and landing areas. The town is also known for its religious landmarks. Chilaw is the seat of a Catholic diocese, and the Munneswaram temple complex, one of the important Hindu shrines in the country, stands a short distance inland.
A Chilaw map poster brings together the ocean, the lagoon and the roads that run parallel to the coast. In black and white the town becomes a band of streets between two bodies of water. It is an unusually clear composition, and it gives the poster the calm, horizontal balance typical of coastal settlements.
A long, fairly straight shoreline runs along the western side of town. It gives the map a clean edge against the Indian Ocean.
The lagoon east of the town forms an irregular body of water. It contrasts with the straight coast and frames the town from the inland side.
The main road north and south runs parallel to the sea. Streets branch off it toward the beach and the lagoon.

Ko e ha Chilaw
Chilaw means a lot to Sri Lankans who grew up by the lagoon, and to families who fished this coast for generations. A map of the town is a simple, dignified reminder of where the water meets home.
You can add a title, subtitle and coordinates of your choice and pick one of five styles. Blueprint emphasises both lagoon and sea, while Classic black and white keeps the coastline crisp.
