Chodavaram is a town in the north of coastal Andhra Pradesh, a short drive inland from Visakhapatnam and not far from the first ridges of the Eastern Ghats. From above it shows a dense core of lanes and small blocks around the main road, with houses thinning out into a patchwork of fields, tanks and scattered villages on every side.
Agriculture defines the area, and sugarcane and paddy fields reach almost to the edge of town.
