Eluru stands between the deltas of the Godavari and the Krishna, and water defines the town more than any building. Irrigation canals from both river systems reach the city, and the Tammileru stream passes through it, so the street network is repeatedly interrupted by channels, embankments and bridges. The older town clusters tightly around these crossings, while newer residential areas stretch along the roads beyond.
To the south-east lies Kolleru Lake, one of the largest freshwater lakes in India, a shallow wetland that swells in the monsoon and shelters large numbers of migratory birds. It appears on the map as a broad, irregular expanse that makes the town feel like a peninsula of streets between canals and marsh. Paddy fields fill much of the remaining land, so the edges of Eluru fade into level ground.
Eluru serves as the headquarters of its district and has long been known for hand-woven carpets. An Eluru map poster suits anyone who knows the town from its canal banks and crowded road junctions, and the combination of fine water lines with dense old streets gives the composition a delicate, almost engraved quality in the Classic and Paper styles.

One of India's largest freshwater lakes lies south-east of the town, a wide, shallow wetland that forms a soft, irregular boundary on the map.
A small river winds through the urban area, adding a curving natural line that contrasts with the straighter canals and the roads around it.

Ko e ha Eluru
Eluru is a place people carry with them, whether they left for Hyderabad, the Gulf or further afield. A map of its canals and familiar crossings makes a gentle reminder of home, and its fine water lines reward framing at larger sizes.
