Cotorra is a municipality in the department of Córdoba in northern Colombia, in the low, flat country of the lower Sinú river region. The land here is laced with water: marshes, channels and seasonal lagoons, part of the wider system of ciénagas that dominate this part of the Caribbean lowlands.
The town itself is small, with a compact centre of streets and blocks and roads running out toward neighbouring towns and farms. Much of the surrounding land is used for cattle and crops, and the edges between dry ground and wetland shift with the seasons, which gives the wider map an irregular, organic shape.
