Ferizaj lies in southern Kosovo, on a broad plain between hills. Unlike many towns in the region, it grew up around a railway station, built in the 1870s on the line to Thessaloniki. That origin shows in its map: the centre is relatively regular, with streets arranged around the railway and the main roads that meet near it.
