Filiaşi is a town in Dolj County, in the Oltenia region of southern Romania, north of Craiova. It lies close to the Jiu River, and from above the town sits on flat, open ground where the river's wide floodplain and a network of roads and railways meet. The street pattern is simple and fairly regular, with houses on long plots.
The town is known as a railway junction, where lines toward Craiova, Târgu Jiu and the west come together. On the map, the tracks and their sidings form some of the clearest lines, curving in and out of town. The Jiu's channel and its wooded banks add a softer, irregular edge.
