Ko e mape
Fujinomiya occupies the south-western slopes of Mount Fuji in Shizuoka Prefecture, and its territory reaches high up the mountain. The built-up core lies low on the volcano's gentle fan of lava and ash, with streets gradually giving way to farmland, forest and the high pastures of the Asagiri Plateau further north. Snowmelt filtering through the mountain emerges here as clear springs.
The city grew around Fujisan Hongū Sengen Taisha, the head shrine of the many Sengen shrines dedicated to the mountain across Japan. Beside it, Wakutama Pond collects spring water that pilgrims once used for purification before climbing. Fujinomiya is also known for its own style of yakisoba, and the Fujinomiya trail, starting from the highest of Fuji's fifth stations, is the shortest route to the summit.
A Fujinomiya map poster reflects the pull of the mountain. Streets cluster around the shrine and the station, rivers and roads run down the slope in long lines, and the upper edge of the map empties into forest. Even without the cone drawn in, the direction of everything on the page points toward Fuji.
The grounds of Fujisan Hongū Sengen Taisha form a large open block at the centre of town, bordered by the spring-fed Wakutama Pond and the stream flowing from it.
Roads and watercourses descend from the mountain in long, nearly parallel strokes, tracing the gradient of Fuji's lower flanks across the map.
North of the city, the settled area opens into highland pasture and forest, where scattered roads leave broad, quiet white space around the edge of the frame.

Ko e ha Fujinomiya
Many people know Fujinomiya as the start of a climb, a shrine visit or a morning view of the mountain. The map recalls that journey with restraint, letting the streets and slopes suggest Fuji's presence.
Use the title and subtitle for a climbing date or a personal note, and adjust the coordinates line. The five styles include Blueprint and the softer Paper. Digital files are $9, or order a printed poster on matte paper with an optional frame.
