Guéret is the prefecture of the Creuse department in central France. It is one of the smallest administrative capitals in the country. The town sits on rolling upland ground, with its compact historic centre on a gentle rise. Boulevards and main roads loop around the core, and residential streets spread out into the green countryside.
North and south of the town, the land is wooded and hilly. The Chabrières forest lies just to the south, known for a park where wolves live in semi-freedom. That closeness to forest and farmland gives the map its character. The urban area ends quickly, and scattered hamlets, roads and small ponds take over.
