Gunjur is a coastal town in the Kombo South area of the Gambia's Western Region, south of the Banjul and Serrekunda urban area. It lies a short way inland from the Atlantic, with a long, straight beach that serves as a busy landing site for fishing boats.
The town's layout is loose and irregular, typical of rural Gambian settlements: sandy lanes wind between family compounds, with the densest area in the centre and gardens and farmland toward the edges. A road links Gunjur to the coast and to neighbouring villages along the southern shore.
