Hinatuan is a municipality in Surigao del Sur, on the eastern coast of Mindanao facing the Philippine Sea. Its town centre lies near the shore of a broad bay, and from above the coastline breaks into inlets, small islands and mangrove-fringed channels. Inland, rivers wind through low hills and farmland, and roads follow the coast to the north and south.
The municipality is best known for the Hinatuan Enchanted River, a short, deep river whose unusually clear blue water draws visitors from across the country.
