Libertad lies in the Caraga region of north-eastern Mindanao, in the lowland area around Butuan. The terrain here is broad and flat, shaped by the wide river valley and its approach to the coast. From above, the place reads as a pattern of roads and residential streets laid across open ground, with fields and waterways never far away.
The street layout is practical rather than planned for show. Main roads carry traffic across the district, while smaller lanes branch off towards homes, schools and local markets. Drainage channels and creeks add thin, irregular lines to the map.
