Igugunu is in the Singida Region of central Tanzania, on the wide plateau that covers the middle of the country. The land is open and fairly dry, with scattered farms, grazing land and bushland between settlements. There is plenty of space here, and it shows clearly on a map.
From above, Igugunu appears as a loose cluster of plots and paths, not a dense block of streets. A few main tracks run through it and out across the land. Between them, smaller footpaths link homesteads and fields. The pattern is irregular and sparse, and quite different from a planned town.
