Jalārpet, also written Jolarpettai, is a town in northern Tamil Nadu best known for its railway junction. Lines running between Chennai and Bengaluru meet and divide here. On a map the tracks are the clearest feature: long, gently curving lines that pass through the town and fan out beyond it, with the streets arranged around them.
Away from the station, the town mixes dense older lanes with newer residential blocks, and roads lead out to villages and farmland. The Yelagiri hills, a small hill station popular with weekend visitors, rise close to the town. Within a short distance, the surrounding landscape shifts from plain to slope.
For many travellers, Jalārpet is a place seen through a train window, one stop on a long journey across southern India. A Jalārpet map poster gives it a fuller picture: the junction at the centre, the lanes around it and the hills at the edge. It shows a small town where a surprising number of routes meet.
The tracks of Jolarpettai Junction dominate the layout. Lines toward Chennai, Bengaluru and beyond meet and divide in the middle of town.
Close-packed streets around the station and market area form the densest part of the map, in contrast with the looser pattern further out.
The Yelagiri hills rise close to the town, and a wider frame shows how the flat plain gives way to higher ground.
