Jiaohe is a county-level city in Jilin Province, east of Jilin City, in a basin among the wooded uplands that rise toward the Changbai range. From above, the built-up area forms a compact patch on flat valley land. A river winds past and ridges press in from several sides.
The street network is simple, mostly a grid of main roads and residential blocks, and the railway runs through the town on its way across the province.
