Jodhpur grew at the foot of Mehrangarh, one of the largest forts in India, which stands on a steep rocky hill above the old city. Rao Jodha founded the city in 1459, and the walled quarter below the fort still keeps its tight, irregular lanes. On a map they appear as a dense knot of streets pressed against the hill.
Many houses in the old city are painted blue, which gave Jodhpur its name as the Blue City. That colour disappears on a line map, but the layout remains distinctive: gates in the old walls, the Clock Tower and Sardar Market at the heart of the old town, and stepwells such as Toorji ka Jhalra tucked between houses. Newer districts extend in wider blocks beyond the walls.
A Jodhpur map poster shows how strongly the landscape governs the city. The fort's rock and the empty ground around it read as a bold shape, while Umaid Bhawan Palace stands on its own hill to the southeast. Between them, the old city and the modern suburbs fill the plain toward the desert, giving the composition a clear centre and generous margins.
The fortress rises on a steep outcrop above the old city. The unbuilt slopes around it create a strong void in the street network that immediately orients the viewer.
Below the fort, narrow winding lanes lead to the Clock Tower and Sardar Market, enclosed by walls with historic gates that still shape the pattern of the main roads.
Completed in the 1940s, the palace crowns Chittar Hill southeast of the centre, a second high point that balances the fort across the spread of the modern city.

Ko e ha Jodhpur
Jodhpur is a place people remember vividly after a first visit, and for families with Marwari roots it is a lasting landmark. The fort and old city give the poster a clear focal point that works well above a sofa, in a study or in a hallway.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps with the Blue City or a wedding date. Sand and Paper suit the desert light, while Noir brings out the fort's silhouette. Choose a $9 digital download or a printed poster on matte paper, framed or unframed.
