Kabinda lies in the south-central part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and is the capital of Lomami province. The town sits on the high, open plateau typical of the region, where savanna and scattered woodland stretch in every direction. From above, it looks like a network of unpaved and paved roads radiating from a central core, which becomes looser toward the edges.
As an administrative capital, Kabinda serves a large rural area. Government offices, markets, schools, churches and health facilities are concentrated in the centre, while residential neighbourhoods extend outward in small plots and compounds. Roads leading out of the town connect it to other settlements in the province and to the wider Kasai region.
A Kabinda map poster captures this gradual transition from denser town to open land. The central streets form a closer mesh, the outer tracks spread and thin, and the surrounding landscape leaves plenty of empty space in the frame. It is a spare and honest portrait of a place that rarely appears in print.
The central area has the densest concentration of streets, where administrative buildings, markets and churches are located, forming the core from which the rest of the town extends.
Roads leave the town in several directions across the plateau, linking it to villages and other towns in the province, and give the map its outward-reaching structure.
On the outskirts, the street pattern thins and breaks up into scattered tracks, blurring the boundary between the town and the surrounding savanna.
