Kandana lies in the Gampaha district of Sri Lanka's Western Province, north of Colombo on the road toward Negombo and the international airport. The town grew along this corridor, and the map shows it clearly: a main road running north–south, with lanes and residential streets branching off on both sides.
The land here is low and green, typical of the coastal plain around Colombo, with paddy fields, streams and wet ground scattered among the houses. Built-up areas and patches of open land alternate, so the street network looks irregular and organic rather than planned.
