Katerero lies in the Kagera Region of northwestern Tanzania, a short distance inland from the western shore of Lake Victoria and not far from Bukoba. The landscape here is made of ridges and valleys, with homesteads and plots of cultivated land spread across them. From above, the settlement is less of a dense town and more of a network of roads and scattered buildings.
The street pattern follows the terrain. Roads run along ridges and down into valleys, and paths branch off to individual farms. A small trading centre forms the densest part of the map, with buildings clustered along the main road. Towards the east, the land drops towards the lake shore, which frames the wider region.
