Korwai, also written Kurwai, is a town in Vidisha district in central Madhya Pradesh. It stands in the agricultural plateau country of the Malwa and Bundelkhand borderlands, where fields stretch in every direction. From above, the town appears as a tight cluster of lanes around an older centre, with newer growth spreading along the roads leading out.
The town was once the seat of Kurwai State, a small princely state of the British era, and its older fabric still reflects that role as a local centre. Today it serves the surrounding villages as a market town, which shows on the map as roads converging from several directions.
