Ko e mape
Kosan lies in Kangwon province in the south-east of North Korea, inland from the port city of Wonsan. The town occupies a valley floor between mountain ridges, and its street network is compact, with a few main roads running along the valley and smaller streets filling the flat land in between. Detailed information about the town is limited, and the map is drawn from open geographic data.
The area around Kosan is known within the country for its large fruit orchards, which cover many of the lower slopes surrounding the valley. The railway line in eastern Kangwon passes through the area, and the valley roads connect the town to neighbouring counties and toward the coast.
A Kosan map poster shows a town defined by its setting: the linear shape of the valley, the roads following it, and the steep ground on either side leaving broad open space. It is an unusual subject for a wall map, and its spare geometry suits anyone with a connection to the region or a strong interest in places rarely seen.
The town occupies level ground between ridges, giving the street network a compact, elongated shape that follows the direction of the valley.
Roads and a railway follow the valley through the area, forming the longest continuous lines on the map and linking the town to the wider province.
The hills around town are largely given over to orchards and farmland, shown on the map as open ground rising away from the built-up area.
