Ko e mape
Krishnagiri lies in northwestern Tamil Nadu, on the plateau between Bengaluru and the plains further south. Its name is usually explained as black hill, a reference to the dark granite outcrops that rise around the town, and on a map these appear as rocky islands of open ground among the streets and fields.
The town grew at a crossroads, and it still sits where major national highways meet, linking Bengaluru with Chennai and with Salem and the south. From above, the highway corridors cut clearly through the older, denser streets of the centre, while newer development stretches out along them in long lines.
A hill fort overlooks the town, a reminder of its place in the eighteenth-century wars of the region. Around Krishnagiri, mango orchards cover large areas, and the district is well known for its mango harvest. A Krishnagiri map poster shows these layers together: highways, granite hills, a compact town and the orchards beyond.
Major national highways converge at Krishnagiri, and their broad routes and interchanges form the strongest lines on the map, connecting the town to three large cities.
A rocky hill topped by an old fort rises above the town, appearing on the poster as an open, irregular shape surrounded by closely packed streets.
Outside the town, the Krishnagiri reservoir on the Ponnaiyar River and wide areas of mango orchards shape the landscape, giving the map's edges water and texture.
