Ko e mape
Kuyera lies in Oromia, in the Ethiopian stretch of the Great Rift Valley, a short distance from the market town of Shashamene. The valley floor here is a broad corridor of farmland and scattered settlements, with the lakes of the central Rift to the north and south. Kuyera is best known as the home of an Adventist college and its associated institutions.
On a map the town is modest and informal. A main road threads through it, with lanes branching off to compounds, fields and the college grounds, whose buildings and paths form a more ordered patch within the looser pattern around them. Beyond the edges, field boundaries and footpaths take over, and the landscape opens out.
A Kuyera map poster keeps that contrast visible: a few firm lines of road, a quieter mesh of paths and a lot of open ground. It works as a personal record for former students and staff, or for families from the area. It is drawn without colour, so the structure of the place is what remains.
Kuyera sits on the floor of the Ethiopian Rift, a wide lowland corridor between highland escarpments, with the central Rift lakes lying within the surrounding region.
The college grounds stand out as a more regular pattern of paths and buildings, set apart from the informal lanes of the surrounding settlement.
A road links the town to nearby Shashamene, a regional hub, and that connection is one of the strongest lines on the map.
