Kỳ Anh lies at the southern end of Hà Tĩnh Province on Vietnam's narrow north-central coast, where the Annamite range comes close to the sea. On a map the town and its surroundings form a strip of lowland between forested hills to the west and the shoreline of the South China Sea to the east, laced with small rivers and irrigation channels.
The area has changed quickly since the development of the Vũng Áng economic zone and its deep-water port, which brought heavy industry to what had been a largely farming and fishing district. Kỳ Anh was raised to town status in 2015, and new roads and planned blocks now sit alongside older villages and paddy fields.
A Kỳ Anh map poster shows a landscape still being redrawn: the straight lines of new industrial roads and port facilities meeting the looser pattern of villages, rivers and fields. National Route 1 runs through the area, a single strong line tying it to the rest of the country's long coastal corridor.
The deep-water harbour and its industrial zone form large, regular shapes along the coast, with breakwaters and quays drawn in hard lines against the sea.
Vietnam's main north–south highway passes through the area, forming the clearest spine on the map and connecting the town centre, villages and industrial zones.
A narrow band of paddy fields, rivers and settlements lies between the hills and the shore, giving the map a layered structure from mountains to sea.
