Longhe is a town in the Chongqing municipality, in the hilly country east of the city of Chongqing. The land here is rarely flat. Roads follow the contours, climb to ridges and drop into valleys, and the town is built wherever the ground allows. From above, the street pattern is long and curving rather than square.
Much of the surrounding land is terraced for farming, and small settlements are spread along the valleys and slopes. Towns like Longhe are local centres for this countryside, with markets, schools and services located along the main roads that connect them to the wider region.
